Yarns Heal

Yarns Heal is a suicide prevention campaign for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy community.

Yarns Heal Pilot project highlighted the ongoing need for mental health support across Queensland for accessibility, being culturally secure, inclusive, and free from all forms of discrimination and violence.
By destigmatising and fostering open conversations with proactive interventions, we want and need to build communities where everyone feels valued, seen and supported to be their full and complete selves.
This pilot project marks a significant step forward in our collective effort to create safer communities and support those in need.

We have 3 main themes emerging from the project.
Theme 1:
“Taking my whole self into spaces”
The Importance of Visibility for LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy Communities
Theme 2:
"Black people know ‘let’s have a yarn”
Yarns and Communities Save Lives
Theme 3:
“We literally have to create that space”
Aspirations for Sustainable Safe Spaces and Health Services
